Devotional Series for August 2026: Fully Committed
“But your hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.” 1 Kings 8:61 (NIV)
These words are part of King Solomon’s prayer of dedication at the completion of the temple in Jerusalem. It was a moment of celebration and fulfillment, a physical reminder that God was dwelling among His people. But Solomon didn’t want a beautiful building. He wanted faithful people. Not halfway committed. Not when commitment is convenient. Not when you feel like committing. Fully committed.
At our baptism and when joining in membership with a local congregation of The United Methodist Church, we promise to faithfully participate in its ministries through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Each vow shapes our life together in Christian community and enables us to share the love of Christ in every corner of God’s kingdom.
In this 5-week “Fully Committed” series, we’ll explore how we can more deeply understand and practice these five membership vows. These 5 vows are not a checklist, but grace-filled practices of discipleship. Amen!!!
