Devotional Series: “Transformative Power”
“17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatethe Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:17–18(NIV)
Unfortunately, we really don’t see the transformative power of the Holy Spirit as we should. And the reason, I believe, is because far too many Christians are content to live their lives, we are far too content to live our lives, based upon secondhand experiences. What is happening is that we’re settling for what is second best.
And one of the main reasons is because we’re not able to bring to bear the power, authority, and resources of heaven upon the situations we find ourselves in. In other words, we’re not operating in the full power of the Holy Spirit.
Maybe to say it like this, we lack God’s power to implement what He tells us to do because we’re trying to do it in our own power and abilities. Instead, we need the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit to be what God has called for us to be.
There is a verse in the Old Testament that speaks volumes about this. It was given by the prophet Samuel to Saul, as God was preparing Saul to be Israel’s first king. Samuel said, “The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.” (1 Samuel 10:6 NIV)
In the next few months, we are going to be looking at “Transformative Power”, particularly regarding how this power regenerates believers at conversion, empowers them for holy living and witnessing, and produces virtues such as faith, love, joy, and self-discipline. Amen!
