Devotional Series for Epiphany 2026
Sermon Series: “Dig Deeper”
“How enriched are they who find their strength in the Lord; within their hearts are the highways of holiness! Even when their paths wind through the dark valley of tears, they dig deep to find a pleasant pool where others find only pain. He gives to them a brook of blessing filled from the rain of an outpouring.” (Psalm 84:5-6)
The job of digging is hard. Whether it’s digging a flower bed in your yard or digging to the deepest places of your heart…it’s hard work. But having to dig deep is excruciating when you are walking through a dark season or a “valley of tears.” When all your energy is gone, your emotions are unraveled, your tears flow constantly. The Psalmist promises us that in those most difficult of times if we dig deep enough, we’ll find a place of refreshing, a place of rest and renewal, a “pleasant pool.” But we must dig deep to find it.
The key to digging deep is to not stop. Don’t stop at the first layer or even the second one. To find the true treasure, you must go to that uncomfortable place, get your hands dirty, and start digging. Nothing of significant value is ever found on the surface. The same goes for our hearts.
In the next very weeks, we are going to be looking at “Dig Deeper”, particularly regarding the season of Epiphany, to help us move beyond a superficial understanding of faith to a committed, personal application of God’s Word in our daily life. It is about seeking profound spiritual truth and building a life unshaken by worldly challenges. Amen!
